The Tingsha is made up of two small metal gongs connected with a leather strap. The best way to play the Tingsha is to hold the strap close to the metal, holding one side of the TIngsha in each hand. Turn one gong so the striking edge runs vertically, turn the other so the striking edge runs horizontally, and bring them together to make the sound.

Traditionally, the Tingsha has been used to make music, to clear negative energy from a space, and to bring the mind into the present moment. It has also been used to heal tinnitus. Spiritually, the Tingsha has been used to open up the inner vision of the third eye. It’s also used to create a healing connection to share the positive energy between the healer and the client. And, finally, the Tingsha is used to balance the chakras.

In many meditation sessions, Tingsha is played at the beginning to signal the start of the session and at the end to signal the end of the session.
